Superworms

Donald Dunham - 1/17/2009

  • Superworms are easy to keep

For 500 or less use a shoe box size plastic container filled half way with Wheat Bran, if your going to keep more than that use a sweater box size plastic container filled 2- 3rds full with Wheat Bran, or 3 inches from the top of the container.

When you buy the containers they will have lids, drill holes or cut out a portion of the lid and then silicone some screen to the inside of the lid this will keep the containers from getting moist and becoming moldy, It will also keep moths and other pests out of your supply of worms.

Superworms like it warm! My many years of raising insects have shown me that 70 to 85 degrees is perfect for superworms.

Water for the worms should be in the form of Romaine Lettuce leaves spread over the surface of the Wheat Bran.

You can add some Worm Chow* for added nutrients sprinkled on the surface of the Wheat Bran.

REMEMBER! Don’t refrigerate Superworms, it will kill them.

If you wish to gut load your worms, The best way I have found Is to place the worms in a jar with Fish Flakes and a piece of lettuce over night, the Worm Chow* works real good for gut loading too!

When the worms have eaten most of the bran, pick out any worms in the box and replace it with new bran.
